President's Greeting

Our sponsors, members, and donors deserve much thanks for the ongoing success of this now 86-year old lecture series. This year’s season tickets will be $90 for the entire season - that’s just $15 per event. I can think of no better entertainment value in all of America! Please continue to donate and to let our sponsors know of your appreciation!

I am particularly thrilled with this year’s lineup of speakers: Our speaker for September will be Dr. Keith Smith. He cofounded The Surgery Center of Oklahoma, an outpatient surgery center owned by over 90 of top physicians and surgeons in central Oklahoma. Because of his innovative approaches to our national medical delivery problems he has made appearances on the John Stossel Show, CNBC, Huffington Post, The O’Reilly Factor, Forbes, The New York Times to name a few. Come hear Dr. Smith in September to hear one of the game changers in our health care delivery system.

In October, we will have a world-renowned country and western singer Jimmy Wayne to speak. He has performed on the Grand Ole Opry more than 215 times. Jimmy’s hits include” Stay Gone,”” Paper Angels,” “I Love This Much” and “Do You Believe Me Now”. Jimmy toured with Brad Paisley and recorded “Sara Smile” with rock’ and roll Hall of Fame duo Daryl Hall and John Oates. Not only is Jimmy a country western star but he has also written several books. He has written a three -time New York Times bestselling book Walk to Beautiful: The Power of Love and a Homeless Kid Who Found the Way.

Dr. Patrick Moore, known as The Sensible Environmentalist, co-founded Greenpeace. He will be our speaker in November. Dr. Moore is committed to finding solutions to our environmental issues by striking a balance between the needs of people and the need to protect the environment.

In February, Nancy Miller will be our speaker. She grew up in Oklahoma City attending Bishop McGuinness High School and the University of Oklahoma. After serving in Vista, working with underprivileged children, she took a chance and moved to Los Angeles. She has become a very successful writer and producer. Her works include” Nashville”, “Saving Grace,” and MANY more works. She has recently moved back to Oklahoma City to work on a new and exciting project with roots in Oklahoma.!

In March, Meredith Meuwly will give us a glimpse of the world of Antique Roadshow and the world of international auction houses; in short she will give us clues to find out “What’s it worth”. She is now working at Heritage Auctions in Dallas. In the past, she has worked at Christie’s and is a contributor to Antique’s Roadshow.

Shelly Finly is the Deputy Program Manager for the Geo- Carb Science Mission at the University of Oklahoma. She attended Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics. After graduation from Northwestern State University of Louisiana she earned her masters from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Ms. Finly joined the National Science Foundation Office of Polar programs in 2011. While at NSF she traveled to Antarctica and Greenland. She gives a humorous and informative talk that delights scientists and nonscientists alike. Come join us in April to hear this fabulous speaker.

Please join us for the 86th season of OKC Town Hall. The insightful and dynamic speakers presented in the 2018-2019 season will appeal to all ages. Please help us promote these gifted speakers by telling your friends either by word or by social media. Please “like” us on Facebook., share our announcements, and post your comments regarding our past and future speakers.

Respectfully,
Carleen Burger, President
